Telling Tales of Boomtown Glory with Bob Geldof

Most people get into bands for three very simple rock and roll reasons: to get laid, to get fame, and to get rich.” Bob Geldof.

In an ILFDublin exclusive, Bob Geldof is in conversation with Niall Stokes, editor of popular music and politics magazine, Hot Press, on Saturday 24th Oct, 8pm. This is an online event and tickets are on sale now from ilfdublin.com

Despite describing himself simply as ‘a musician’, Geldof has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize eight times; received the Nobel Man of Peace Award from Mikhail Gorbachev; was awarded the North-South human rights medal and The EU Gold Medal amongst other awards. His TV and Music awards include Ivor Novellos, Brits, a BASCA Treble Clef, BAFTAs and The Royal Society, Peabody and Royal Geographical Society Awards.

He was described by Bono as ‘one of the greatest storytellers’. International Literature Festival is delighted that audiences will have an unmissable chance to hear Bob Geldof’s witty, deeply felt and frank discussion of the background, inspiration and context behind some of his songs.

As an author, political activist and internationally-renowned co-founder of the hugely successful Band Aid and Live Aid famine relief initiatives, it’s important to remember that Bob Geldof is also a wonderful songwriter and the lead singer of legendary Irish band The Boomtown Rats. Tales of Boomtown Glory is a collection of the complete lyrics from The Boomtown Rats and his solo albums and includes an introduction and 25 song stories written by Geldof, plus unreleased material from his notebooks and background stories to the songs.

A Dublin City Council initiative, ILFDublin annually presents a myriad great Irish and International voices to debate, provoke, delight and enthral and this year is no different - in that sense, though different in other ways. Earlier this year the decision was made to postpone the planned May 2020 festival due to the impact of Covid-19, but ILFDublin have announced details of an exciting festival of literature which you can experience anywhere this October as the festival moves online for 2020 only. ILFDublin is also delighted to partner up with the Guinness Storehouse which will be this year’s primary venue from which the International Dublin Literary Award winner will be announced and many of our events for grown ups will be streamed from. From engaging livestreams, to pre-recorded chats to watch when suits you and intriguing podcasts the choice is yours. There is something for all ages.
